Here some basics of  makeup will be discussed for all those who are new to makeup and love makeup but have no clue about it.

WHAT IS MAKEUP?

According to me, makeup is an art which not everybody can do and through which a person dealing with insecurities gains confidence. It enhances a person's facial features through a variety of products.

SKIN PREP BEFORE MAKEUP:

The most important thing to achieve a flawless canvas for makeup is skincare before makeup so that it can act as a beautiful base for makeup to sit on. This includes C➡️T➡️M.

C stands for CLEANSING - Cleaning the skin is very important before makeup to remove excess oil and dirt.

T stands for TONING - To tighten the pores and to hydrate the skin we use toner.

M stands for MOISTURIZING  - Applying moisturiser before makeup smoothes skin surface and increases the longevity of makeup. It also hydrates the skin underneath makeup.

STEPS OF MAKEUP:

STEP 1 - SKIN PREP

I have discussed this step above and it is the most important step therefore it should not be missed.

STEP 2 - PRIMER

Primers are silky smooth gels and creams that fill in the lines and pores on your face, smoothing out uneven textures and creating the ideal canvas for your makeup. It helps makeup last longer.

Where to apply? Primer is applied on areas of the face which has open pores that is chin around the nose and forehead.

How to apply? Take a pea size amount of primer and place it in the above mentioned areas and dab it into the skin with the help of fingers, brush, sponge.

STEP 3 - COLOUR CORRECTOR

Color correctors are used to correct discoloration, like sunspots or dark under-eye circles. There are many colour correctors having different uses. It works on colour wheel theory which means it cancels out the opposite colour. This step is not required for everyone.

PURPLE - Purple color correctors eliminate yellow-tinged complexion. This is ideal for those who want to revive dull skin or conceal acne scars.

YELLOWYellow color correctors counteract blue and purple tones. They are most commonly used to lighten under-eye shadows and dark circles on light skin tones.

ORANGE: Orange and red concealers are ideal for those with warm, dark skin tones who want to camouflage discoloration or dark circles.

PINKPink color correctors can help mask signs of fatigue and brighten dull skin.

GREEN - Green neutralizes redness from concerns like acne or skin sensitivities.

How to apply? Gently apply it in the concerned areas with the help of brush, sponge, fingers.

STEP 4 - FOUNDATION

Foundation is a base for other products it can be in liquid, cream and powder form. The most important thing that should be taken care of is choosing the right shade as wrong shade can make your face look ashy and grey.

To check the rise shade swatch the foundation from your jawline to the neck and blend it if the foundation blends into your skin and cannot be differentiated with your face complexion then that's the right shade for you.

Where to apply? apply it all over the face and neck

How to apply? dot it all over the face and then blend it using a foundation brush or a beauty blender. A brush gives a higher coverage then a beauty blender as it soaks some of the products. some may also blend it using fingers for a light coverage

STEP 5 - CONCEALER

Concealer are of 2 types:

Liquid concealer gives medium to full coverage and cream concealer gives high coverage.

we use concealer of similar skin tone to conceal blemishes and a concealer of 1-2 lighter shade then skin tone to highlight certain areas.

Where to apply? After concealing the blemishes a lighter shade concealer is applied on :

  • Horizontally over the center of your forehead
  • Down the center of your nose
  • Under your eyes
  • In a curving arch at the top of your chin, just under your bottom lip

How to apply? place small dots on the above mentioned areas and gently blend it into surrounding skin using fingers or a concealer brush, sponge.

STEP 6 - POWDER/COMPACT

Where to apply? Use a compact to set the makeup. if you have dry skin then use it just on the areas like under eyes, around the nose, centre of the forehead and chin and if you have oily skin then apply it on the whole face.

How to apply? Use a big fluffy brush to apply the powder on the wide areas and a small fluffy brush or a powder puff on narrow areas.

STEP 7 - CONTOUR /BRONZER

With the help of contouring you can enhance and sculpt your facial features like jawline, cheekbones and nose. Bronzer gives a sun kissed or tanned look. The diff between contour and bronzer is that bronzer gives more natural look than contour . It slims down your face.

Where to apply? Contouring is applied commonly on jawline, cheekbones, temple and nose.

How to apply? Choose a shade 1-2 times darker than you skin tone. apply it in the shape of a number “3” on both sides of the face. Start at your forehead, pull the bronzer along your cheeks, then sweep it across the jawline, reaching all the way down to your chin and blend it with a blender or brush into your neck.

STEP 8 - BLUSH

If you want to add a bit more color and vibrancy to your complexion, blush may be the key. There are many shades of blush one should apply it according to one's skin tone.

FAIR SKINTONE -  Pink shade blushes

MEDIUM SKINTONE - Plum shade blushes

DUSKY/DARK SKINTONE - Peach or orange shade blushes

Where to apply? To have naturally flushed look apply it all the way from apple of your cheeks upto your ears, a bit on the nose and chin.

How to apply? take a dense brush and sweep it on the above mentioned areas with a light hand.

pro tip: (1) do not take too much product at once on your brush because you don't wanna look like a clown. If you think u need more build it up a bit. (2) use a cream blush or a tint for more natural no makeup look.

STEP 9 - HIGHLIGHTER

To add glow and glam to your makeup look use a highlighter and shine more than a star. Natural or glam look highlighter can uplift your look. choose a right shade of highlighter according to your skin tone.

FAIR TO MEDIUM - Use a cool toned highlighter like silver, pink, champagne.

MEDIUM TO DARK - Use a warn toned highlighter like golden, bronze or pink.

Where to apply?  Use a highlighter on the high points of the face:

  • Down the bridge of your nose
  • Across the tops of your cheekbones
  • In the inner corners of your eyelids
  • On your brow bone
  • The indent above your upper lip (also called the Cupid’s Bow)
  • The center of your forehead
  • The center of your chin

How to apply? use a concealer brush or a sponge to blend and apply the highlighter.

pro tip: use liquid highlighter for more natural look and top it up with a powder highlighter for a glam look.

STEP 10 - EYESHADOW

Eyeshadow can add interest to your makeup look, whether you opt for neutral shades or go bold with colorful hues. Whichever look you use, grab two complementary eyeshadows: one lighter shade, and one darker shade.

How  and where to apply? Dip your eyeshadow brush into the light shade, then tap the brush to get rid of any excess product. Apply the lighter shadow across the entire lid, starting at the lash line and ending just above the crease of your eyelid.

Now dip your brush into the darker color, tapping off the excess once again. Apply the color at the outer corner of your eye, just above your lash line. Sweep the darker color across your eyelid crease, just under the brow bone. Stop application around the center of your eyelid, as you don’t want to darken the inner corners. Take a clean blending brush and blend the two shades together. If you’d like a more intense look, reapply the darker shadow once more.

STEP 11 - EYELINER

Eye liner is one tricky thing that can break or make your look. you can either have eyes looking like a god/goddess or a panda. I hope with this basic eyeliner guide you become an eyeliner pro.

How and where to apply?  To apply a basic liner start thin at the inner corner of your eye, then make the application thicker towards the outer corner. You can start lining at the middle of your eye, or in the inner corner, and keep the liner tip or brush as close to the lash line as possible. Use small strokes of your liner to create small dashes along the lash line, then connect them to fill in the gaps

To lift up your makeup apply a fox eyeliner start from the middle of your lash line and extend till you wish making a straight sharp wing and fill it up. make a sharp 'v' shape in the inner corner to make your eyes look elongated and foxy.

pro tip: if something goes wrong during the application do not worry apply little bit of makeup remover on a 'Q' tip and clean the area.

ALWAYS KEEP 'Q' TIP HANDY DURING MAKEUP APPLICATION YOU WILL THANK ME LATER ^_^

STEP 12 - MASCARA

If you’re going to use only one makeup product, mascara should be at the top of your list. A few swipes of mascara can make your eyes look brighter in a single step. It adds so much to your look so you should invest in a good voluminous mascara.

How to apply? start by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler.Be careful with that look straight while doing it and do it for 5 secs. after that . Gently swirl the wand around to ensure all the bristles are coated in mascara and Wriggle the mascara brush lightly across the roots of your lashes. This will create more volume, which you can then pull through to the ends of your lashes. If your lashes clump together, grab a clean wand and brush through them. Apply a second coat for more volume.

pro tip: After applying mascara use that wand to gently brush your eyebrows with a light hand to set it. Its a great hack for beginners if you do not know how to fill up or shape your brows.

STEP 13 - LIPSTICK / LIP GLOSS

To make your lipstick look good and last long prep your lips before lipstick application. If your lips are chapped and cracked, be sure to use a gentle lip scrub to remove any dead skin and apply a protective lip gloss . Next, use a lip conditioner or moisturizer to soften the lips further. After your lip balm has absorbed, blot any excess.

How to apply? use a lip liner first and line your lips for more pouty look then apply the lipstick directly or with the help of a brush to be more precise. start from the centre of the lips and drag along the length and fill up the whole space.

STEP 14 - SETTING SPRAY

Setting spray or setting powder can be the final touch for your makeup routine. If you want makeup that stays on all day long, without greasing, creasing, or shine, it’s important to invest in a quality setting solution.

how to apply? use the spray from a medium distance that is not to far or close. spray it while your eyes closed and do not rub let it air dry. you can also spray it on a beauty blender and dab the blender on the whole face.
